Nicolas Bourquin lives and works as a graphic entrepreneur in Berlin. He was born in 1975 in Tramelan (french part of Switzerland), studied graphic design at the School for Applied Arts in Biel. Just after he graduated, he was recruited by MetaDesign Suisse in July 2000. In 2001, Nicolas founds the graphic design studio onlab in Zürich and moves in 2002 to Berlin (Germany), working on an international design competition for Berlin’s Museumsinsel (1st prize) and on new commissions for onlab. Nicolas is co-editor of the best selling books (amongst others) Los Logos, Dos Logos and Tres Logos as well as Data Flow 1 + 2 (Gestalten).
In 2006, Nicolas was invited by the Swiss Art Council Pro Helvetia to stay in Cairo (Egypt) for 3 month, as artist in residence.
Since 2001 Nicolas Bourquin is heading as Creative Director and CEO the onlab team working in Berlin on commissioned, collaborative as well as self initiated projects. onlab explores ways to stage complex content and convey relevant topics while changing and playing with common perceptions. Some of the main projects of onlab involved the new visual identity of the city of Tramelan in Switzerland, the entire redesign of the architecture magazine domus (80th anniversary, april 2008) or the design and conception of the German contribution to the Architecture Biennale in Venice in september 2008.
