Film production is space production. Film historians such as David Bordwell and philosophers such as Gilles Deleuze have explored the connection between the moving image and space in a variety of ways. Using a number of examples, especially from the field of animation, different approaches will be discussed as to how artists and designers engage with the production of spaces – drawing, performative, sculptural, deconstructivist, virtual.

The spectrum ranges from the playful irritations in the short films of Raimund Krumme to the media facades of a Robert Seidel to immersive projects by Jeffrey Shaw, among others.

Ulrich Wegenast is responsible for the artistic direction of the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film.

On the evening before the Lunchtime Talk, i.e. on Tuesday, 18 October 2016, 8 p.m., Ulrich Wegenast and the formation Birdbags will perform a concert with live visuals by Martin Knobel at the Ravensburg Theatre.

The Birdbags make a brilliant mixture of 60s beat, surf punk and new wave with German-language lyrics, supplemented with film music elements. As an all-star band from Stuttgart, Tom Bird (bass, guitar, vocals) and Bob Bag (guitar, bass, vocals, trombone) perform, flanked by Ulrich Wegenast on percussion instruments.

After concerts in various clubs in the south of Germany (e.g. as support for The Nightingales) as well as recordings in the legendary Sigmaringen Faust Studio (Goldene Zitronen, Cluster…,), their repertoire comprises more than 30 songs, which are complemented by live visuals by VJ Martin Knobel at gigs and take us into the world of trashy 60s entertainment.
