Markus Rathgeb has served as a lecturer in the department of Media Design since 2001 and has contributed significantly to the design and structure of the program since its inception. Since 2008 he has served as the director of studies for Media Design II. His teaching focuses on graphic design, design methodology, and typography. Rathgeb studied communication design in Wiesbaden and Sydney and holds a PhD from the University of Reading (UK). He has worked for various design offices in Germany. Most recently, he was creative director at Alligator Design in London. His academic work has led to a number of publications, including a 2007 monograph on the work of Otl Aicher published by Phaidon. He lectures and publishes internationally on socially relevant design and acts as responsible editor for the design magazine ⌘E.
