In the early 1980s, forces came to bear in Hamburg that are still effective today – think of the last G20 summit in 2016. The Hafenstrasse house repair scene wanted to claim more than just vacant speculative living space for themselves; they wanted to establish a new, solidary and uncommercial way of life. With the Hamburg Media Education Center, the urban combat had an alternative media center at its side, whose video-film productions also represented the cause of the non-privileged with bold punk montages. And although Thatcher at the time denied the existence of society – which opened the door to irresponsible, reckless neoliberal action – this film shows social, and therefore societal, binding forces that oppose precisely this neoliberal capitalism.
