Pain is essential. Neither philosophy, medicine, art nor religion can escape it. The problem: pain is ambivalent, oscillating between extremes. Exaggerated media exposure versus banishment from people’s everyday lives. “l’homme brut” visualises the triad of pain “piercing, cutting and dull” in categories such as props, people and space. The result: an audiovisual approach that confronts the viewer with the absurdities and contradictions of dealing with physical pain.
