Anadolu Pop is a musical phenomenon from Turkey that emerges from a fascinating synthesis of traditional Turkish folklore and Western rock.

The genre experienced its golden age in the 1970s, then disappeared over the decades until it is now making a comeback in Europe as well as worldwide. In the Kültür TV of the Yunus Emre Enstitüsü Cologne this week Prof Dr Holger Lund, Professor of Media Design, Applied Art and Design Sciences at the DHBW Ravensburg is the guest and gives us a focused insight into the development of Anadolu Pop with various examples from the period between the 1970s and 2000s. In the stream, an impressive Turkish genre will be unlocked, which holds a wealth of undiscovered diverse variations that are yet to be explored. Particularly in view: the period of “submergence” of Anadolu Pop on cassette from the 1980s to the 2000s.
