„Illitera“, the final BAC project by Mediendesign alumni Nico Bernklau and Tobias Müller, has been selected by the TDC judges to receive the prestigious “Certificate of Typographic Excellence”. It will be included in the Annual of the Type Directors Club, The World’s Best Typography, and will also be shown at the 64th Awards Exhibition (TDC64) in New York City.
The project addresses the issue of illiteracy through means of typo-/graphic design tools. It proposes an engaging participatory workshop series to create typeface systems together with illiterate people. The publication presents eight exemplary typeface results, a series of typographic posters designed by international professionals applying these typefaces as well as a documentary of the research and workshop process.
For more than 70 years, the Type Directors Club has celebrated typographic excellence from around the world primarily through its annual competitions. This year 264 winners were selected from over 2000 entries from 55 countries. Besides being exhibited in New York City, the winners will also be included in 8 exhibitions that will tour dozens of cities in the United States, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
Congratulations!
