Dr. Rainer Utz will explain the latest developments concerning the legal protectability of works of applied art, affecting the day to day work of a (media) designer. For about a year now media law in Germany has seen a turnaround towards a fundamental opening of copyright for such works. In his lecture Mr. Utz will explain the backgrounds of this development. Additionally, he will lay out their special relevance for student design work as well as projects developed in applied professional contexts.

Dr. Rainer Utz is a specialist in media law, working with the Biberach firm RSW Lawyers. He focuses on legal questions of branding and trademarks, patents, copyright and design law as well as IT and internet law. As a lecturer at the Cooperative State University he has been active in the Department of Media Design for many years.
